A document has been sent misusing the address of TBD Legal Limited.

What is the scam?

The SRA has been informed that a document has been sent to a member of the public purporting to be from a barrister called Robert Cutey of Robert Cutey Law Chambers operating out of Brunswick House, 1310 Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester GL3 4AA.

The document is a request for legal fees relating to UK visa and work permit processing.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called Robert Cutey Law Chambers or a genuine individual called Robert Cutey.

Any business or transaction through Robert Cutey at Robert Cutey Law Chambers at the address of Brunswick House, 1310 Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester GL3 4AA is not undertaken by a firm or a solicitor authorised by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors TBD Legal Limited with an SRA ID 466560. Its office address is Brunswick House, 1310 Gloucester Business Park, Gloucester GL3 4AA.

The genuine firm has confirmed that it does not have any genuine and intended connection to the document referred to in the above alert. The genuine firm has also confirmed that it does not employ anyone with the name of Robert Cutey.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
