An email has been sent from 'Caddington Denshaw', claiming to be a chairman and senior partner at 'Caddington Matilda Law Firm' offering assistance in recovering an alleged inheritance.
What is the scam?
The SRA has seen an email claiming to be from an individual called 'Caddington Denshaw’ purporting to be a chairman and senior partner at 'Caddington Matilda Law Firm’.
The email refers to an alleged inheritance of £27,835,000 and offers to help the member of the public access the inheritance in return for a percentage of the inheritance.
The email includes the telephone number '+44 783 071 4386', email 'caddenshaw@cadmatilda.com', a domain 'www.cadmatilda.com’ and the following address '145 City Road, London, EC1V 1AW’ in the signature.
Any business or transaction through the telephone number '+44 783 071 4386', and the email 'caddenshaw@cadmatilda.com' are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor called 'Caddington Denshaw' or a firm called 'Caddington Matilda Law Firm'.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
